Quite random with the Swedish bits. But good insight into The Jam's Weller's deadpan attitude - Why did you name yourself after a fruit spread and are you punk?

Taking original style into the 21st century
This is a great, if absurd interview. Quite random with the Swedish bits. But good insight into The Jam's Weller's deadpan attitude - Why did you name yourself after a fruit spread and are you punk? PLUS: Weller's cringeworthy flirting with the girl.

Ok it’s an American car, so it’s probably more suited to the Liam Gallagher school of Mod (i.e. more scruffily rock and roll) than any other, but there it is.
Ok so this is effectively a re-post from a 2015 blog, but I accidentally switched onto it the other day and was reminded. It's a decent song and although Beady Eye have basically faded out into obscurity, LG did at least start well! When's the Oasis reunion, that's what I want to know... So say the family. But I'm a Mod, so it's all fine.
On a suiting spending spree the other month, I picked up this swag number from Atom Retro and Madcap England. Apologies for the weird lighting, but the style is three-button, with a dark navy, subtle Prince of Wales-type pattern. Nice additional detailing such as covered buttons, zany inner lining and a nice purple trim on the inside. I like it when a maker puts in that little extra effort to cover the buttons with fabric - looks sharper somehow. Plus, the price was decent at £104 (with a cheeky promo discount). Always a winner. If you’re getting this one, I’d recommend a size up. My order was my usual size, but the fit was far too small on this suit. I would point out that I also ordered a Donegal suit (in grey) in the same batch which fitted fine, so I assume it is the fit of this particular style. Having said this, I'm not sure if they have any of this particular style left - but there are plenty of others by Madcap England and Atom Retro. For the record, I think I own about 5 or 6 suits, but two are for work so they don't count and one is very old. So it's 3. Not too many at all... This is a grossly underrated song, so listen, learn and love. A tune from their album "Anthems for Doomed Youth", which I am quite liking right now. As usual, Adaptor have outdone themselves with a great selection for the new Spring / Summer season. Having met Paul (who is in charge of the designs), I am no longer surprised by the creativity and class of Adaptor’s various garments - his dedication to the Mod style, as well as various interlocking Jazz and other concepts come out clearly in every new line they release.
There’s a lot to swoon over this year too. However, my ultimate favourites have to be the two types of dogtooth suit that top the gallery on their “New In” page. The first very nearly converted me to green. I’m not talking politically, but rather my usual aversion to anything involving the colour green. As a fashion colour, it’s just not something I get. What more can I offer here? I literally never wear green! But this one nearly convinced me. Far more up my street is the second dogtooth suit they’ve got here in cream. But anyway, to my main point: the attention to style on these looks exceptional. It’s unusual, for instance, to have off-the-peg suits with a flap breast pocket, which is an excellent detail that would set this suit apart. Plus, what little we can see of the burgundy suit lining looks exquisite. And, as regular readers will know, I’ve always been fond of dogtooth. It’s a classic Mod pattern that you can almost guarantee nobody else will be wearing (at least as long as they aren’t also Mods!). Plus, putting it with a more unorthodox cream (as opposed to the usual white) gives this suit an edge over its competitors, again updating it. So full marks for that. I suspect they might not fly off the shelves per se (how many guys do you see wearing dogtooth suits around these days?), but I think the discerning Mod shopper will know s/he’s into something good with these ones. I'll look to comment on a few other goodies they've got later next week... Bit of a two in one today - Weller AND the car he's driving in! Bit of a cheeky one by the boys. This used to be in my CD alarm clock back in the day. Could you think of a better track to wake up to... Surprised it didn't get censored back in the day, but then what do the law know about the Nice? Might be slightly off the reservation for some, but pretty decent tune. |
