It’s simply the truth that boots are just somehow more rock ‘n’ roll than shoes. Even in that sentence “shoes” seems somehow less cool than “boots” as a word. It should be law therefore for every man (or woman) who claims to be cool to have at least one pair of boots in their wardrobe. Chelsea Boots are also extra edgy to me - whether this is down to an awareness of history or simply because of the polished, uncompromising look, I don’t quite know.
The classic Chelsea Boot is the obvious choice here for Mods. No fussy lace-ups or straps, simply a minimalist slip-on, slip-off elastic ankle. The original Chelsea Boot takes its name from Chelsea, West London of course, having been associated with (the?) King’s Road during the 1960s and worn by pretty much every band from the time who is worth listening to. The Rolling Stones also wore them. A cuban heel is also a nice extra, imported from Spain and Latin America and borrowed from male dancers of the Flamenco.
I’m a big fan of the suede at the moment actually - a slightly softer variation on the patent leather. And it seems there can’t be enough of these out there...
Note that quite a few of these are from Pinterest. And you know, with Pinterest, finding a source is sometimes very tricky if the post is old - so I've done my best to put in at least vaguely relevant links. Sorry to say the navy and yellow seems to have been one of a kind and sold out!
